This site-specific dance project will be using the walls of the deserted Eski Hamam, in order to reflect the multiple walls that divide us (personal, social, political). Focusing on the architecture and use of the Baths (older use and current no use), as well as the walls, the doors, the path, the holes and openings, this dance piece suggests a meeting point between the ground and the sky. Through the continuation of the choreographer’s research on contemporary dance on vertical surfaces, the dancers-performers will be invited to move their centre towards all possible directions of the external space. The sound and voice that will be created live by the performer from Hungary Katalin Ladik, aims at creating an allegory of closed space, acting as the building’s internal voice, as well as a calling towards the dancers-performers, which will invite them to break their limits and to relocate not only the centres of their bodies but also contemporary reality’s stereotypical ideas. Gradually reaching an accelerated repetition, and simultaneously slowing down, the dancers will try to bring the audience to a situation of complete pause and stillness, while literally walling their bodies into the silence of the building, thus hoping to act as forces of rebellion against the walls that restrict us.
